Terms and Conditions

MeetaNeed is free, and it is built on people treating each other well. These terms explain what we ask of you, what you can expect from us, and where our part ends.

1. Agreeing to these terms

MeetaNeed.org is a free community website. In these terms, "MeetaNeed", "we" and "us" mean this website and the people who run it. By using this website, creating an account, or posting anything on it, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

2. What MeetaNeed is, and is not

MeetaNeed is a free community platform where people post things they need and people who can help find them. It covers four kinds of posting: needs, gifts, jobs and events.

Our role ends at the introduction. We are not a party to whatever happens next. We do not deliver anything, hold anything, inspect anything, process any payment, take any commission, or guarantee that anyone will follow through.

Plainly stated

We do not verify the identity of the people who use this site. We do not run background checks. We do not confirm that a posted need is genuine, that an offered gift exists or works, that a job is real, or that an event will happen.

Anything you arrange through MeetaNeed is between you and the other person, at your own risk and your own judgment.

3. Who can use MeetaNeed

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or post on MeetaNeed. If you are under that age, please do not register. You must also be legally able to enter into this agreement, and you must not be barred from using the site under any applicable law.

4. Your account

Some parts of the site require an account. You agree to give accurate information when you register, to keep your password to yourself, and to tell us promptly if you believe someone else has gained access to your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

Please use one account per person, and do not impersonate anyone else or claim to represent an organization you have no authority to represent.

5. What you post

Everything you post is yours. You keep ownership of it. By posting it you give us permission to display, store, copy and distribute it on MeetaNeed so the site can do its job, and to show excerpts of it elsewhere when we are pointing people back to the platform. That permission ends when you delete the content, except for copies already made in the ordinary course of running the site, such as backups and material other people have already saved or shared.

You confirm that you have the right to post what you post, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

Please do not include more personal information in a public listing than the situation calls for, whether your own or anyone else's. Never post another person's address, phone number, medical details or photograph without their permission.

6. Community rules

MeetaNeed only works if people can trust it. Do not use the site to:

  • Post anything false, misleading, or designed to take advantage of someone.
  • Ask for money for yourself under a false story, or run any kind of scam, chain appeal or pyramid scheme.
  • Advertise a business, sell goods or services commercially, or use listings as marketing.
  • Offer or request anything illegal, stolen, recalled, or unsafe, including weapons, drugs, prescription medication, alcohol or tobacco.
  • Offer or request anything involving animals for fighting, or any living creature where doing so would break the law.
  • Harass, threaten, bully, stalk or intimidate anyone.
  • Post content that is hateful or discriminatory, or that treats people worse because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, familial status or any other protected characteristic.
  • Post sexual content, or anything involving a minor that a reasonable parent would object to.
  • Collect other people's information from the site, scrape it, or use it to send unsolicited messages.
  • Interfere with the site's operation, attempt to gain access you are not entitled to, or upload anything malicious.

Housing, employment and lending are subject to anti-discrimination laws in most places. If your listing touches any of those, it is your responsibility to keep it lawful.

7. Meeting people safely

Most of what happens on MeetaNeed ends with two people meeting. Please use the same care you would with any stranger.

Before you meet someone

  • Meet in a public place in daylight where you can, and bring someone with you.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you expect to be back.
  • Do not give out your home address, financial details or identity documents.
  • Be wary of anyone who pressures you, rushes you, or asks for money up front.
  • Trust your instincts. You are never obliged to go through with anything.
  • If you feel unsafe, contact your local emergency services first, and tell us afterwards.

We provide these suggestions because we care what happens to you, not because following them makes us responsible for the outcome. Your safety remains your own responsibility.

8. Money, goods and services

MeetaNeed does not process payments. There is no checkout, no escrow, no fee and no commission. We never ask you to pay us to post, to respond, or to complete anything.

If money does change hands between two users, that is entirely their arrangement and entirely their risk. We are not involved and we cannot help recover anything. Treat any request to send money through a wire transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency or payment app as a warning sign.

Gifts posted on MeetaNeed are given as they are. Nobody is promising that an item works, is safe, or is fit for any particular purpose, and we are certainly not promising it on their behalf.

9. Jobs listings

MeetaNeed is not an employment agency, a recruiter, or a party to any working arrangement made through the site. We do not screen employers, workers, or the work itself.

If you hire someone or take work through MeetaNeed, you are responsible for whatever the law where you live requires of you, which may include licensing, insurance, tax and worker classification. Please sort that out between yourselves before the work starts.

10. Moderation and removal

We may remove any listing, comment or account, at any time, if we believe it breaks these terms or puts someone at risk. We try to be fair about it, but we are a small operation and we will usually act first and explain afterwards.

We are not obliged to monitor what people post, and the fact that something is still on the site does not mean we have reviewed or approved it. If you see something that worries you, please tell us through the contact page.

11. Other people's websites

Listings and stories on MeetaNeed sometimes link to other websites, and some stories on the site are drawn from elsewhere and credited to whoever reported them first. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for what is on them.

12. Our content

The MeetaNeed name, logo, site design, and the text we write ourselves belong to us and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. Please do not copy them or use them in a way that suggests we are connected to, or endorse, something we are not.

13. No warranties

MeetaNeed is provided as it is and as it is available, without any warranty of any kind, whether stated or implied. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.

We do not promise that the site will be uninterrupted, error free, or secure, that anything posted on it is accurate, or that any need posted will actually be met.

14. Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, MeetaNeed and anyone involved in running it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill, income or opportunity, arising out of your use of the site.

In particular, and because it is the whole point of a platform like this one, we are not liable for the conduct of any user, whether online or in person, including anything that happens when two people meet.

Where liability cannot be excluded altogether, our total liability to you for any claim connected with MeetaNeed is limited to one hundred United States dollars (USD 100). MeetaNeed is free, so there are no fees to refund.

Some places do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

15. Release and indemnity

You release MeetaNeed from any claim, demand or damages arising out of a dispute between you and another user. If you live somewhere with a law that limits a general release to claims you know about at the time, you agree to waive that protection for the purposes of this release.

You agree to indemnify and hold MeetaNeed harmless against any claim brought by a third party that arises out of your use of the site, anything you post, or your breach of these terms.

16. Ending your use

You can stop using MeetaNeed and close your account whenever you like. We can also suspend or close an account if these terms are broken. The sections covering content permissions, warranties, liability, release and indemnity carry on applying afterwards.

17. Changes to these terms

MeetaNeed is still growing, and these terms will change as it does. When they do we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant we will make a reasonable effort to say so on the site. Continuing to use MeetaNeed after a change means you accept the updated terms.

18. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to its conflict of law rules. You agree that any dispute that cannot be resolved between us will be brought in the state or federal courts located in El Paso County, Colorado.

19. How to reach us

If any of this is unclear, or you need to report a problem, please get in touch through the contact page. We would rather hear from you than have you guess.

That is the fine print. Here is the point.

Somebody near you needs something today, and somebody else has it sitting unused. All of the above exists so that the two of them can find each other safely.
